Dr. Stanley C. Uretzky, Clinical Professor of Pediatrics at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine and Professor of Pediatrics at the Ben Gurion University of the Negev in Beer-Sheva, died suddenly on September 21, 1988 in Philadelphia. He was spending a sabbatical year as Visiting Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Pennsylvania. He was 51 years old and resided in Beer-Sheva, Israel and worked at the Division of Pediatrics, Soroka Medical Center in Beer-Sheva.
He graduated from Columbia University and the University of Buffalo School of Medicine. Following his pediatric residency at Mount Sinai, he remained on the faculty. In 1980 he made Alyia to Israel, to head the Pediatric Day Hospital at the Soroka Medical Center,where children could have either complicated diagnostic tests or short term therapy without having to be admitted to the hospital, returning to Mount Sinai annually to teach Pediatrics and Child Development. In Beer- Sheva he continued his superb teaching and clinical activities, amply corroborated by his new colleagues.
His excellence in the practice and teaching of Pediatrics was widely recognized, and he received the Teaching Award at Mount Sinai School of Medicine and the First A.H. Douglas Memorial Teaching Award from the New York State Medical Society. He was considered by many as one of the world's most respected teachers and practitioners of Pediatrics.
