Physicians that meet the criteria specified below are entitled to submit an IMA membership request.
Physicians that are IMA members (in accordance with existing requirements and guidelines) enjoy various benefits granted as part of the membership fees.
Full members
1. Physicians licensed to practice medicine in Israel are entitled to become full members of the IMA
2. Full members that pay IMA membership fees, are members that have unrestricted rights to elect and be elected to the various IMA institutions and that benefit from the complete range of services, rights and obligations.
Affiliate members
1. Academic degree holders who work in the field of life sciences, as well as dentists who are specialists in oral surgery or are specializing in oral surgery, are entitled to submit a request to join the IMA as affiliate members.
2. Affiliate members share the same rights and obligations as other IMA members with the exception of the right to elect and be elected to the various IMA institutions, on the condition that they pay membership fees as required.
Physicians in the IDF, Israel Police and security forces
Physicians serving in the IDF, the Israel Police and in other security forces will be accepted as full members of the IMA, subject to the limitations of their employment terms. Membership fees will be determined for each physician group in accordance with the rights and services received from the IMA.This section does not apply to physicians who are civilians and IDF employees.
Fellow members
1. Sixth year medical students and medical school graduates holding a diploma from a faculty of medicine (interns) will be accepted to the IMA as fellow members
2. Fellow members will not be required to pay IMA membership fees and will not have membership rights, except for the right to receive IMA publications.
3. Upon receipt of a license to practice medicine in Israel, fellow members will become IMA members, as defined in clauses 7-8 in IMA regulation.
Valued IMA
The. Central Committee shall have authority to grant the title of "Yakir IMA" to a person who has acted in the extraordinary advancement in medicine and doctors.
Foreign members
Doctors living overseas who want to support and take part in IMA’s activities can become IMA Foreign members. These doctors will be entitled to limited rights, which shall be specified by the Central Committee.
Exemptions and special groups
1. A Group or groups of doctors and members of the IMA may be eligible for a temporary exemption or a temporary reduction in their membership fees, dependant on the circumstances and criteria to be determined from time to time by the Secretariat of the IMA.
2. Application by a single member of the IMA, for the exemption or reduction in their membership fee should be submitted in writing, detailing the reasons for the request and sent to the Department of Welfare at the IMA. The request will then be reviewed in accordance with criteria determined by the Chairman of the Finance Committee and the Department of Welfare.
