The Israel Medical Association operates a telephone hotline for receiving inquiries from doctors employed by one of the following institutions:
The General Security Service, The Israel Prison Service, The National Insurance Institute, The Israel Defense Forces (IDF), and doctors providing opinions for insurance companies.
The hotline addresses the following cases:
- Doctors encountering ethical dilemmas in the course of their work.
- Doctors identifying a conflict of interest between their obligations to their employer and their medical duties towards patients.
- Management issues of the employing institution that conflict with the ethical obligations of the doctor.
The purpose of the hotline is to assist doctors facing these issues, understand the scope and nature of the ethical dilemmas, and, if necessary, bring them for broad discussion before the Ethics Committee of the Israel Medical Association, chaired by Dr. Tami Karni.
It should be noted that doctors who contact the hotline can remain anonymous, and any information provided will be kept confidential.
