Recognition of Fellowship Done Overseas

A specialist in a primary field in Israel who undertakes a subspecialty fellowship abroad may request the Scientific Council to recognize part, or all of the fellowship completed abroad for the purpose of obtaining a specialist degree in Israel, provided that there is a corresponding specialty in Israel.

The physician must submit a formal request to the Scientific Council for recognition of the subspecialty fellowship completed abroad before registering for specialist examinations in Israel. This should be done through an online system and must include the following documents:

  1. A letter from the physician briefly describing their request.
  2. A signed letter from the head of the fellowship program abroad detailing the fellowship track, the content covered, and the wards in which the physician worked.
  3. A list of surgeries or procedures performed during the subspecialty fellowship (in relevant fields).

When evaluating the overseas fellowship, the Scientific Council will compare the training path and clinical activities with the requirements of the corresponding track and clinical activities in Israel, including the duration of the fellowship, clinical activities, mandatory/optional rotations, procedures/surgeries, courses, etc., and will decide whether to recognize part or all of the fellowship period completed abroad as meeting the requirements of the Israeli syllabus for the subspecialty.
