מחקר רב מושקע בהבנת הבטיחות והסיכונים הפוטנציאליים של חומרי ניגוד מבוססי יוד.   בעבודה זו, הצענו אמצעי מחקרי חדש לבחינת סיכונים אלה על ידי שימוש במערכות מידע מתקדמות, המאפשרות שליפה מהירה ונוחה של נתונים דמוגרפים וקליניים רבים של מספר רב של חולים מאושפזים. מצאנו כי שיעור אי ספיקת כליות חדה בעקבות חשיפה לחומר ניגוד בעת בדיקת CT דומה לזה בעת חשיפה לגדוליניום במהלך בדיקת MRI ושיעור אי ספיקת כליות חדה בעת חשיפה לחומר ניגוד, הוא גבוה באופן מיוחד בחולים עם פינוי קריאטינין הנמוך מ-30 מ"ל/דקה/1.73מ².  כמו כן, הדגמנו כי השיפור בתפקוד הכליות לאחר חשיפה לחומר ניגוד עלול להסוות קיומו של נזק לכליות, ובעקבות זאת להוביל לתת הערכה של הסיכון לאי ספיקת כליות חדה מחשיפה לחומר ניגוד.

התקדמות היכולות של מערכות מידע והקשרים הדיגיטליים בין מוסדות רפואיים והקהילה, עשויים להוביל לעריכתם של מחקרים רב מרכזיים, שיאפשרו הכללה והתאמה טובה של חולים, כדי לחשוף באופן יסודי את הבטיחות והסיכונים הפוטנציאליים של חומרי ניגוד מבוססי יוד

Interactive Health Databases on the Internet

In order to obtain reliable, comprehensive and current data, information systems which enable flexible presentation or analysis are necessary, as opposed to static tables. On-line and interactive numeric health databases on the Internet are increasingly available. Interactive tables can be produced in many fields, eg., mortality, hospitalizations, cancer incidence, or motor vehicle accidents. The query screens are user-friendly and they can access remote, computerized data. Thus, it is possible to receive immediate responses to specific questions from national or international datasets, which can then be compared with local data - all without leaving one's chair. The aim of this review is to increase awareness of the existence of numeric health databases on the Internet, and their contribution to epidemiological research.
