Adjustment Period

A physician whose overseas subspecialty fellowship is recognized as meeting all the local training requirements for that specialty will undergo an adjustment period. The purpose of this period is to ensure that the physician has adequate training, knowledge, clinical approach, and interpersonal skills and is capable of functioning in the Israeli healthcare system as a specialist in the subspecialty. At the end of this period, the head of the ward will present a letter of evaluation detailing the start and end dates of the period and describing the clinical activities performed by the physician, as well as their evaluation and recommendation.

The adjustment period will last one month, full-time and continuous, without breaks, within an approved setting in Israel for the specialty, with at least two-thirds (2/3) of the period in the primary specialty. During this time, the physician must be exposed to all routine departmental work, engaging in activities required by their field of expertise and performing these tasks. The validity of the adjustment period in this framework is 3 years.

If the evaluation letter from the department head is not positive, the Scientific Council will set additional requirements for completing the primary specialty or a secondary specialty for the applicant to obtain a specialist degree.

The Scientific Council will provide a formal written response through the online system within 21 working days from the date of the committee meeting. This decision is valid for 5 years. After this period, the physician must submit a new request for the committee’s review.
