On March 15-16, 2023, the Israeli Medical Association held its 44th General Assembly at the David Intercontinental hotel in Tel Aviv. Attending were over 450 representatives of the various professional associations that make up the IMA.
Elections for IMA president were held on Wednesday morning, shortly after the opening of the GA and Prof. Zion Hagay was reelected as IMA president for another four years.
In addition, Prof. Kashtan was re-elected as Chair of the IMA Scientific Council, in rotation with Prof. Eyal Anteby. Dr. Yossi Walfisch was elected as Chair of the IMA Ethics Committee and Prof. Hanna Leibe as head of the IMA World Fellowship.
Prof. Hagay took the opportunity to give a summary of the past four years in which he served as president of the IMA. He described the many actions the IMA had undertaken to promote physician and patients' rights, including: the fight against violence in health care, physician burnout, health care during the Corona crisis, international collaboration, and more.
Prof. Hagay pledged to continue the work he started and noted that in his second term he would begin negotiations towards a new collective bargaining agreement.
