The Division of Medical Professions issues three different types of licenses to practice medicine in Israel:
- Temporary License: Issued for 14 months to physicians entitled to practice medicine in Israel initially
- Permanent License: Issued to physicians who have legally practiced medicine in Israel for at least 12 months upon presentation of a letter of recommendation from a certified Israeli medical specialist who knows and has observed the applicant’s work in Israel personally and professionally for at least one year to the Ministry of Health
- Limited Permit: Issued to physicians who are not Israeli citizens or permanent residents in Israel, and who wish, for various reasons, to practice medicine in Israel for a limited period of time (up to two years; extending requires passing the Israeli licensing exam) for work in a specific ward in a specific hospital, for a limited period of time only; to receive this permit, the physician must be accepted for work in Israel in an accredited department of an accredited hospital and the hospital applies to the Ministry of Health for the permit on behalf of the physician
