Congratulations to Professor Eli Sprecher on his appointment as the new head of Ichilov Hospital
Prof. Eli Shpercher has been working at Ichilov since 2008. He is the director of the Division of Dermatology, and Deputy Director for Research and Development. Since 2016, he has also been a member of the hospital's management. He will now replace Prof. Roni Gamzo, who served as head of Ichilov for the past nine years.

The award is given every year to a researcher for advanced research on diabetes. The award was given to Prof. Moshe Phillip, the head of the Institute of Endocrinology and diabetes in the Children’s Medical Center Schneider, for his research that found a way to evaluate the risk of developing diabetes throughout life in infants. It's a simple blood test that can predict the chance of developing diabetes type 1 with an accuracy of 85%.

Prof. Jean F. Soustiel received the grant thanks to his study of the involvement of the 1TRPV receptor in mitochondrial dysfunction that leads to neuropathic pain.
Prof. Benjamin Reubenoff received the grant for his study of human embryonic stem cells as a basis for the model and discovery of new medicines for widespread damage to the white matter in the brain.

Prof. Benjamin Dekel appointed to manage the new Sagol Center for Regenerative Medicine
Among other things, the new center will develop regenerative therapies and drugs, move regenerative medicine from the theoretical research stage to the feasibility stage and train a new generation of physicians and researchers in the field.

The Haifa Honorary Citizen Award is given annually by the Mayor of Haifa to long-time residents who have engaged in public activities on behalf of the city and its residents, as a token of gratitude and appreciation for their many years of contribution to the city and State. The award is given once a year, to 8 to 12 people selected from the recommendations and nominations presented.
Prof. Beyar is one of the founding members of the Academy and is a specialist in cardiology. He served as director of the Rambam Medical Campus from 2006-2019 and was dean of the Technion's Faculty of Medicine.

The Academy congratulates Dr. Oren Pleniceanu upon receiving the prestigious "Ziegler prize" for 2022
The Ziegler prize was established by the Ziegler family in memory of Reuven Ziegler, and recognizes young physicians and researchers for applied research, this year's focus being "precision medicine". Pleniceanu won for his recent work on the topic of Successful Introduction of Human Renovascular Units into the Mammalian Kidney, which was published in the Journal of American Society of Nephrology (J Am Soc Nephrol 31: 2757–2772, 2020).
The prizes is administered by the Israeli National Academy of Medical Sciences in conjunction with the Ziegler family and the Technion's Rappaport Faculty of Medicine.

Congratulations to Professor Gidi Rechavi upon receiving the Israel Prize in Medicine for 2020
Prof. Rechavi is a specialist in pediatrics, hematology and pediatric hematology-oncology. He has served as the head of the Department of Pediatric Hematology, Oncology and Bone Marrow Transplantation at the Sheba Medical Center and today he directs the Cancer Research Center and the Wohl Center for Translational Medicine at Sheba. His research focuses on understanding the molecular basis for cancer and on the study of RNA modifications (epitranscriptomics).
The Israel Prize committee noted that Professor Rechavi "exemplifies the optimal combination of excellence in clinical medicine and groundbreaking research achievements in understanding basic biological mechanisms for the development of novel therapeutic modalities”.
Professor Rechavi has published 500 articles in leading scientific and medical journals, including Science, Nature, Cell, Lancet and the New England Journal of Medicine.
Professor Rechavi holds the Djerassi Chair in Oncology at the Tel Aviv University, he has received numerous awards including the prestigious EMET prize and is a member of the Israel Academy of Sciences.
